KSN Dr Karen Smith
Karen is a very patient and enthusiastic teacher of Kuk Sool, and particularly enjoys teaching and learning self defence techniques and weapons. She encouraged her two teenage sons to try Kuk Sool and Kurt is now a Jo Kyo Nim and Cameron a Dahn Bo Nim.
Over the past 6 years Karen has won 76 medals in international competitions including the World Championship, the European, UK, Scottish, Spanish and Dutch Tournaments. The two grand-championships, 21 gold, 18 silver, 24 bronze and 13 copper being fairly evenly distributed across sword, staff, sparring, self-defence routine, techniques, form and breaking divisions. Winning 7 UK and 7 European golds was memorable because of the very high standard of competition. Korea was particularly memorable because of the wonderful welcome and scenery that competitors enjoyed throughout. Karen would love to compete in the US next year and is training hard!
KSN Lynn Whiting
Lynn, a qualified fitness instructor, holds a Black Belt in Karate and has trained in Kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do as well as Kuk Sool. She enjoys teaching children and has a six year old daughter who attends classes occasionally and is already demonstrating good kicking power! Lynn's favourite aspects of Kuk Sool are fitness training and forms practice.
Lynn has won 28 medals in international competition including 2 UK , 4 European and 8 Spanish golds. Her best results have been in the sparring, form and breaking divisions. She really enjoys competing in Spain where she won a grand-championship because of the warm weather and the warm welcome (not to mention the tapas and sangria!!). Now that her daughter is older, Lynn is hoping to compete in more tournaments including the next World Championships.
